Glossary
Carpets are widely used everywhere which has to be cleaned after use to avoid being infected from various germs in it. Carpet cleaners does this job with ease which applies number of cleaning methods like shampoo method, bonnet method, adsorbent cleaners and external extraction.
Glossary terms associated with this are
ABSORB
It’s the process of taking a substance into the carpet by means of pores or small openings. It is capable of absorbing even minute particles.
ADSORB
Adsorb is the process of accumulating the substance on to the surface for cleaning process which are easily washed away to ensure that carpet is clean.
ANTI-STAT
This is a chemical substance which utilized to the carpet in order to reduce the static electricity to acceptable levels.
BASE UNIT
The power and supply source used in steam carpet cleaning.
BEATER
Beater is particular equipment which is used to remove loose dirt from the carpet anterior to cleaning.
BISSELL

BLEACH
This can be reducing or oxidizing agents which remove the color.
BLEEDING

BONE SCRAPER
A blade shaped tool used to remove crusted dust from the surface of the carpet.
BRIGHTENERS
Brighteners are whitening agents which emit visible light when cleaning process is influenced through ultraviolet light.
BROWNING
This indicates discoloration of the carpet face. This usually tends to in brownish or yellowish color.
CIRCLING
Circular runs left on the carpet because of improper cleaning.
CLEANING HEAD
A tool used in steam carpet cleaning in both back and forth motion. It contains spray nozzles. Also referred as scrub wand.
CLOUDING
Caused due to over wetting. Previous cleanings residues which are not removed will also become too wet and these wick up carpet leading to formation of clouding on its surface.
CROCKING
Crocking is the loss of excess color in the carpet. This takes place when the carpet in either the wet or dry state is rubbed.
DEFOAMER
A substance used to reduce the foaming effect.
DEGREASER
Cleaning process uses this solvent to remove heavy oils and grease from the carpet.
DEODORIZER
A substance used to reduce or remove unpleasant odor from the carpet.
DISASTER REPAIR
This denotes the services being done when cleaning and other process are damaged by fire, water and smoke.
DRY FOAM CLEANING
Here concentrated foam is used for the cleaning process.
FLUFFING
This denotes the loose fibers on surface of the carpet.
FOILED TABS
These are paper squares used to protect carpet fibers being damaged by rust, furniture legs and stains.
FUME FADING
Fume fading is the loss of dye color of the carpet caused by atmospheric contaminants.
IN-PLANNING CLEANING
Here the carpet is brought to a plant for cleaning rather than to be cleaned in consumer’s house. The plant will be equipped with all necessary devices and tools which are used in cleaning process.
LED

MEMORY
Texture retention refers the carpet memory. Texture shows the quality of the carpet.
MILDEW
This is the fungus growth on the carpet fibers which causes fiber and odor degradation.
MSDS
Material safety data sheet is a compilation of information designed to provide right procedures for handling a substance or device.
NEUTRAL CLEANING
This cleaning process involves elements which is neither acidic nor base where the element will have a pH of 7.
ODOR CONTROL CONCENTRATE
Agent responsible for absorbing and controlling chemical change or decomposition odors in carpeting.
OLEOPHILIC
Its apart of detergent molecule having high affinity for oil.
P.O.G
This describes the agent involved in removing oil, grease and paint from the carpet.
PILE DISTORTION
This occurs when there is texture loss on the surface of carpet.
PSI
PSI stands for Pounds per square inch. It denotes solution pressure in steam carpet cleaning.
PRE-SPOTTING
This is done prior to cleaning process thereby removing the stains.
RESIDUE
It is the stuff that is left after the carpet is cleaned. It can include soil particles, iron materials, dust etc.
SANITIZER
This agent reduces the harmful effects of bacteria present in the carpet.
SHAMPOO
Shampoo is a high foam detergent used for rotary cleaning. Also in-plant cleaning often uses this shampoo.
SOIL RETARDANT
This agent is applied to reduce the effect of soiling. Hence all the soil particles present are removed in a simple manner.
SPROUTING
Sprouting is caused due to the fluffy particles that appear on carpet surface. Users can simply cut these with scissors but if it has developed into a large one then professional methods are to be followed.
STAIN REPELLENT
Stain acts as water repellent which are applied to the carpet surface to remove the dust particles from them.
STEAM CLEANING
Here the cleaning element or solution is forced into the carpet pile under high pressure through jets and immediately removed with help of wet vacuum.
